Mary Sekowski – Decision Not To Apply for City Council Position

"Over the past several weeks, many people have encouraged me to apply for the vacant Woodland Park City Council seat. I am deeply honored by the confidence, support, and kind words so many residents have shared. It has meant more to me than I can express.

After careful consideration, I have decided that I will not be submitting an application for appointment to the open seat.

When I entered the council race, I did so with a vision of helping Woodland Park move Forward Together alongside our community members and current leadership. Throughout the campaign, we had important conversations about responsible growth, fiscal stewardship, housing, economic opportunity, public safety, and respectful leadership. Those conversations helped shape a meaningful dialogue about the future of our city.

I am incredibly grateful to the many residents who spoke before City Council and advocated for my appointment. Their support was both humbling and encouraging. However, I believe this current City Council and Mayor have no intention of considering my application for appointment, thus leading to my decision not to apply.

My commitment to Woodland Park has never been dependent on holding elected office. I will continue investing in our community, supporting local initiatives, asking questions, seeking solutions, and working alongside others who care deeply about the future of this city.

Thank you to everyone who supported our campaign, offered encouragement, and engaged in the process. Public service takes many forms, and I look forward to continuing to serve Woodland Park in ways that help strengthen our community for years to come."
